VPS.net: Town hall, New Features, and more…

We know that our customers are what make VPS.NET great. And while we’d love to catch up over a few drinks, we also know you’re busy. We’ve scheduled a townhall through web-based chat to take place October 4th at 9AM MDT (3PM GMT). All our current, potential and previous customers are encouraged to stop by and have a friendly chat with the staff. You can ask those questions that have been bugging you or just find out what exclusive new things we have coming up.

There is no registration required. You’re simply able to login to the chat athttps://uk2group1.campfirenow.com/0cef0, which will be activated 30 minutes before the session is scheduled to start.

Recovery Mode
Yesterday we quietly rolled out a new feature dubbed recovery mode. This is a great feature that’ll help limit downtime and prevent data loss. What it does it allows you to boot your VPS with a fresh OS install, on a completely separate hard drive than your primary. This allows you to run file system checks (FSCKs), without needing intervention, recover data from file system corruptions, and gives you many other administration tools previously unavailable.

This option is available to all clients on our OnApp based clouds. If you’re currently on a Radar based cloud, this feature will not be available to you immediately however we will be rolling it out in the coming months.

Educators and non-profits
We know that living in a world with higher literacy rates is better for everyone and we also know that technology plays a large part in that. VPS.NET is delighted to be able to offer educators and non-profit organizations unique tools that can be used in a wide variety of applications to help the advancement of technology in society. Whether it be allowing high school or university students to apply techniques in a hands on environment or showing them a quick and easy way to launch their site, we're proud to be able to help.

If you're unable to view the YouTube video, you can also view it here.

Reselling
We have some new fantastic reseller offerings which are unlike anything else on the market. Of course we give you a discount on our standard pricing but coupled with that we provide our proprietary reseller desktop from where you can manage all your customers, handle support and billing from a single login. If you would like to see what value added services we can offer to your business please drop resellers@vps.net an email and we can get you started.

Installing Percona Server on a CentOS VPS

We're speed freaks here at VPS.NET. We're constantly tweaking kernels, services, and optimizing our code to make sure things are faster than you can even imagine. Nobody likes a slow site -- especially not Google. So, a fast site can not only keep users on your site longer, but also help you attract new traffic.

One of the newest tools we've started using to increase the speed of sites is a drop in MySQL replacement, Percona Server. Percona's been around quite awhile, and like us, they're also obsessed with speed. They've developed a drop in replacement that is compatible with MySQL databases and also cPanel servers.

We've found that while MySQL works amazingly well for most sites, sites that see over 20-30 visitors online at a time, Percona accels. Performance is more consistent, while also being sometimes upwards of 30-40% faster. Percona has published benchmarks themselves, which we've found to be inline with our own tests. Enough about it the server though, lets get to installing it!
