i trialled vps.net after getting fed up of my shared hosting always slowing down a lot and from other issues meant that some people couldn't connect because of dns troubles at certain times
the final straw to switch was when there server got hacked and they werent very proactive about it. since switching i couldnt be happier, i run several personal sites including an alliance for a game that i play online my main site (other than my blog) is somersettechsolutions.co.uk | its a bit work in progress because i only get time to do it in my spare time (and i dont have a lot at the moment) it and some of the other sites are hosted upon an aegir drupal backend, its to start building my portfolio of work and hopefully soon i will start doing some freelance stuff (think of me as an IT odd job man )my other site on there is my blog - Anthony Somerset Inc. | Confessions of a "fruitcake" and self professed geek! its a bit geeky at the moment and i need to post some more "life/personal" stuff at some point, but posting regularly is a challenge enough. if you didnt guess it i am a bit of a drupal nerd! have been on drupal development courses and for the most part can build sites in drupal reasonably well, but would appreciate your comments still looking for a way to make vps.net pay for itself for me so that my "hosting" costs are reduced as much as possible, not sure whether i do this via offering a server/vps setup service or support service of some sort, or even rent out some hosting space (that isnt oversold!!!!!!) some thoughts or suggestions (even donations ) are gratefully accepted

OK, I was getting a bit big for a shared hosting reseller account and liked the idea of having nodes in the US and in the UK with VPS as I have clients in each area.
I wanted the server root access that came with VPS but boy I didn't have a clue what to do or have any server experience. I kept reading forum comments about this Anthony Somerset bloke. He seemed to know what he was talking about so I looked him up. It's tough to put all your trust and your companies trust into someones hands that you have never met or even spoken. I made first contact and very quickly my mind was put at ease as he was a really nice guy. So I wanted two nodes with an ocean between them - I discussed various options with Anthony and what the nodes would be used for - he suggested ISP Manager on both. Having previously been with cpanel and WHM this was all new to me. So we agreed a simple rate to install all the software and make them rock solid secure servers. Right away he sent me invoices and I paid - crossing my fingers. Then I just let him get to work - boy he was fast within 48hrs the servers were set up and configured including all the security tweaks. It was then time to start moving content and accounts over to my two shiny new servers! I have a few troublesome clients, one only accessing email online so Anthony needed to move his entire account to the new server - and then there is the US based company with so many GB of data stored in their profile! Anthony took all this in his stride. We talked daily on Skype - sometimes into the early hours resolving issues. At no point did Anthony say he was too busy for my endless questions and requests. He was GREAT and I couldn't have done any of it without him. I would recommend him to anyone (He knows a hell of a lot about Mac stuff too if ya interested). At no point has he asked for me to write this - I just wanted to tell everyone how great he is! If you are thinking of moving to VPS contact him at anthony@somersettechsolutions.co.uk I continue to use him for all manner of server things - he is brill - give him a try! Jonathan Jono Design PS - you will see he has added a comment above this about feedback - I had indicated to Anthony that I was gonna write this via Skype earlier. |

I sent a PM to Anthony about some work the other day after reading some of his posts. I have yet to get back to him, but will definitely give him the job. Anthony if you are reading this I will get back to you. Just so busy at the moment.
