It is good to know that Highwinds recognised their weakness and sort it out.
Not only DNS redirect is invisible, but is much "cheaper" and quicker.
In my opinion Highwinds should have two type of settings/profiles. Large Media, where an HTTP redirect overhead and the additional functionalities that comes with it is good, and Small Media, where response time is the highest priority. You won't be able to have one solution that satisfy both requirements.
