i think they give you a shell portal which basically means you login to there ssh server with gives console access to your server, would me much more performant than the ajaxterm or whatever is used

Except the web browser portal is AWESOME when stuck behind a work proxy and needing to ssh quickly.

Otherwise it would be a case of needing to wait until you got home to do anything on the server thanks to blocked ports, etc.

Just thought if mention that this has been happening to me. I got a ticket open and support fixed it for me. Its happening again now i want to use the console.

It does it in both Firefox (3.6) and IE (8.0.6001.

You can either download putty or use coral IE tab both of these will work until vps.net releases a fix for this bug.

i was going to point out why "want" to use the console, i can understand needing to when you cant get on via ssh

other possible solution that may be of use

webmin comes with a java based ssh client installed as a module that can be used, its not specifically any better than the vps.net dashboard console and is still stuck if you lock yourself out

another idea is use cloudkick's terminal feature, just setup the public key and its a passwordless login too and you get monitoring built in for free. all with the free developer account

i was all excited about the webmin idea a couple of weeks ago until I realised the non-standard ports were all blocked.

Webicero, not sure if the putty option was meant for me though.

Cloudkick sounds pretty cool for this.

you can however reconfigure webmin to run on a more standard port like 8080 or 443 (if you dont use ssl sites or it has its own IP) just like you can also setup ssh to respond on port 443 if needed as long as you dont run ssl sites
