Plesk Watchdog Alternative

Is anyone familiar with the "Watchdog" module that comes with Plesk?

Is there anything similar to this for just a general system, or even ISPManager? It's pretty handy to have to keep systems up or reboot if non-responsive. I'm just curious if anyone uses anything like it without the large over head of running Plesk.

would munin and monit do the job for you?

I am lazy, so I use: http://www.rfxn.com/projects/system-integrity-monitor/ - it is a bit dated, but works wonderfully. It restarts stuff that is down, kills stuff that annoys the server, and reboot's if needed.

i wish my admins were as accepting as you lot

They refuse to install this stuff, and while I do understand why, to me they really seem like useful tools for real-life scenarios.

hey i didnt say i was gonna install it :P

at least going to look into it and see if it provides value to me

that said i dont use APF or BFD just because CSF+LFD do the job for me well and integrate with webmin

i know what you mean. I remember discussing them with my admins a loooong time ago. And they were like "but services shouldn't be failing" and I was "but in real life they do", "but they shouldn't" ..."no, but they are" ... and we sort of kept that up for a while, until I got bored and let them do their thing.
