Hey Guys!

Couldn't wait for the newsletter to tell you this -

We've just implemented a new feature at VPS.NET! Now, when you cancel nodes, you will receive a credit for the unused portion of the node down to the minute.

For a simple example, if you buy 2 nodes at $38/mo in May and you use it for one week, you'll receive $29.41 in credits when you cancel it after 7 days.

This is all automated. These credits will be used towards your future VPS.NET purchases (no cash value).

So, why would I ever want to buy daily nodes now? It would be best to get a bunch of month nodes at the lower price, then just cancel after the boost. That way the money is credited to your account.

Sure, it could use some extra money, but as long as you're fine with keeping some credit with VPS.net, this seems like a nice way to use it.

I do understand that daily nodes are nice if you are going to have a 12 hour surge where you need to add 10 nodes or something. Or if you want to try out the service for a few days. But for those of us that just need a small boost, getting a month node than canceling it seems smarter.

I think you answer your own question :)

It's all about choice. You can pay less per node if you choose to commit the full $13-20 (since there's no cash value...) or you can just pay $1/node.

People delete nodes? So far I've just been adding more.

Very cool feature though, one not too many companies are quick to implement. Thanks for keeping it real.

ya, we've discussed the whole daily node thing quite a bit in the office lately - like, what's the point now etc.
But we do feel they still have a value - not everyone actually needs a server for more than a day, it could be a quick test they need to do, or a temporary need of a server for other purposes. And using the daily nodes that is possible for $1 ... with the credit system announced here, they would still have to pay $20 and while they would get a credit for the unused time, they would still have to commit $20 to VPS.NET.

So, we feel there was a justification for both the daily nodes and the by-the-minute billing model.

Ya, I do that sometimes. (initial thought, then think through it as I type). I'm happy I could answer my own question. :-D
