Updated For Ubuntu 10.04

Before you start, make sure you have the appropriate software to telnet/ssh into your server, such as putty.

Create your vps with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64-bit Basic Installation

Request your free ispmanager license!

Once created it's most likely best to update so run:

apt-get update

apt-get upgrade

Updated? Download and install ispmanager!

wget "http://download.ispsystem.com/install.sh"

sh install.sh

// alternate way if you have issues//

sh install.sh --ip [ip_of_your_server]
-- thanks michaelv

The installation will ask you some pre setup questions. Answer them accordingly. img1 img2

The next step should automatically find your os type. Click yes if correct. img

Type in your hostname. ex. test.comimg

You're then asked to choose installation type. Select 'gives you a choice of software.' img

Now you'll see a list of available packages to install. When you highlight and select you may choose addition options. Below are the addition options that you should choose for each package:

its worth pointing out that the php5.3.2 may not work correctly with some webscripts (drupal is the most notable that comes to mind)

be aware of this when setting up your servers and if able to use a 5.2.x branch php install if neccesary

EDIT - i notice ubuntu 10.04 doesnt seem to offer a 5.2.x version of php

And I couldn't get APC to install correctly with 5.3.2 either...

Whether I select a full install, or the "gives you a choice of software" option, nginx is not available for install. What am I doing wrong? Is it possible to install nginx afterwards?

You have to add some extra sources:

do nano /etc/apt/sources.list

and copy paste all the sources after the first one which is inside to source.list

Sources:
help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/C/configuration.html#extra-repositories

I do have ISPManager license. My VPS was up for about 4-6 months and today I decided to reinstall the whole thing to optimize and clean up the mess from past experiments related to php caches :D
I didn't delete the VPS, instead reinstalled it so I could keep my SSL Certificate and ISPManager license. ISPManager was working perfectly before the reinstall.

Now it seems my VPS's IP isn't in the ISPSystem's database or something like that. I even tried to directly download and install ISPManager but when the install GUI comes up it tells me that the license may have expired.

I'm not sure whats the problem but thats really weird :S I remember that I was able to setup ISPManager after reinstalling the VPS as long as I don't delete the VPS.

EDIT: I sent a support ticket and the issue is solved now.

note:

as ISPmanager team changed installation procedure you should run

sh install.sh --ip [ip_of_your_server] instead of sh install.sh

I'm going to give ispmanager a try but it's a little discouraging that they have no unix install instructions atm. Thanks for the tutorial bordman!

Many thanks !!

NB : I didn't need the "--ip" bit after "sh install.sh..." don't know why but it didn't work with it and worked without it !

For anyone trying to install ispmanager, I had an error with wget and this thread was helpful:
