do you reckon its possible to chuck the code in github and let users develop it as the core funtionality is there?

Think I've found a bug, but I think it might actually be in the VPS DNS Dashboard side, rather than the plugin.

Whenever I run the plugin, there are a handful of sites that it always creates the DNS settings for, others it just skips and has a "recreate" link.

By looking at the DNS section in my dashboard, these domains are not on the list, so this explains why they always try to create themselves.

Looking at the domains they all appear to be subdomains.

I have a few domains on my server which I have cPanel accounts configured for various subdomains. For example I an account for pswd.biz and I also have account for example1.pswd.biz and example2.pswd.biz . I've been using this setup for years.

While testing the VPS.NET DNS dashboard I have discovered that if pswd.biz is already listed, it refuses to create an entry for example1.pswd.biz saying it already exisits.

I know that I could just combine all the subdomain DNS records under the main domain's DNS record, but that is not how WHM sets them up, so I'd have to remember to manually change them every single time I create a new subdomain account in WHM (which is quite often).

So I presume the easiest solution to this is for the VPS.NET DNS Dashboard to allow for these subdomains to be added as seperate records. Would this be possible?

Thanks
James

I have a small Cpanel box with two ips for nameservers. If I make the change, will the additional ip be unnesesary? I'm planning to take a look at this plugin this weekend.

Thanks, if possible for VPS.NET, add a post on the blog with the advantages and an instalation/configuration walkthrough. Thanks

If you made this change, you would not need the additional IP.

I too am seeing this behaviour. I thought it was related to the one site being a "Demo" site in cPanel, but it is also a subdomain of another site I have in cPanel as well.

One other "feature" I have noticed. My server domain, which I have manually entered into the cPanel DNS section, but because it is the root domain on the server and not a cPanel site, does not sync using this tool.

I love the idea, and I have manually created a workaround for this, but I thought you guys should know about this "Feature".

Turns out this is a Softlayer bug, they are patching it for us.

Any news on this Nick? I had the same issue.

Also, does this update AnyCast when a new domain is added automatically or do we have to run the plugin?

Thank you

I have answered my own question, yes it does :-)

I would still like to know the progress on softlayer providing a patch though :-)

I've been told the domain creation bug is fixed. If someone wants to test it and let me know :)

As for the second question, I'm not sure I understand..

I've been looking forward to using this plugin to hand over my DNS worries to VPS.NET but after some thought I can't help feeling a bit hesitant. I like the sound of the redundancy it offers, but I can't help feeling that this plugin is the weakest link. What happens if the plugin stops working, or a bug causes a DNS update not to take effect?

I thought that I could protect against this by leaving my cPanel DNS as ns2 or 3 but from what I've read, secondary nameservers are only consulted if the primary ns is unavailable, and not if it simply doesn't have a record for the domain.

Is there anything I can do to protect against plugin failure? Or should I not even be worrying about it!?

make sure the api server is whitelisted on your server i guess, there is not a lot else you can do other than that

Thanks Anthony, think I'll wait a couple of months to see if anyone has any problems.

The second question is about adding new domains or addon domains or sub domains. Do those get added to the VPS DNS automatically or do we need to run the plugin manually?

If it does happen automatically is there a time to wait?

It all gets added automatically, the plugin works in the background :)

Nope, it's all real time via cPanel API hooks. :)
