Nope, it's all real time via cPanel API hooks. :)

It doesn't seem to work for sub domain's. I just ran a test. I created a sub domain then checked the VPS DNS server and no sub domain.

Then I ran the plugin and recreated by hand. Now the record was added.

Sub domains appear to be working fine for me. It does take cpanel almost a minute to create one, presumably as the plugin is performing it's magic. But as soon as cpanel confirms, it appears immediately in the VPS.NET DNS.

Is your VM in the US or UK?

This is something we're working to address in the next release of the plugin. The issue is that the plugin has to communicate with the US on every DNS function (IE: adding subdomains) so it does take a few seconds..

In the near future, the DNS system will have a UK presence. But until then, we're trying to figure out how to speed it up.

Cheers Nick, sounds great. The speed isn't too much of an issue for me, I just wish to be sure the plugin is rock solid before I can rely on it to take care of my DNS.

it struggles a lot with large zone files

i think this is because it removes all the zone records then recreates rather than a true sync which would only sync changes.

I'll double check, but quite sure it only does that on recreates through the plugin, doesn't do that on every task.

I'm not sure this is related but I seem to have a problem with one of my domains, its suddenly stopped working and I think its something to do with the DNS,

Its not the server as all the other sites are working but I can't access one domain, I've tried changing my DNS to open DNS but dosn't work, I've tried on my mobile and also from some of those facebook proxy things and I'm getting mixed results, the site works on some and not otheres, the domain is www.mattynet.co.uk

Have you checked your VPS.NET DNS dashboard for this domain's records?

I ran a DNS report on your domain and it is reporting that neither of the VPS.NET nameservers have any records for that domain.

I have checked this morning and your web site appears to be working now and is pointing to both of the vps nameservers.

Domain name:
mattynet.co.uk

Relevant dates:
Registered on: 20-May-2006
Renewal date: 20-May-2012
Last updated: 17-Jul-2010

Name servers:
dns1.vps.net
dns2.vps.net

WHOIS lookup made at 09:57:22 09-Aug-2010

There is still however an issue that you need to resolve as mattynet.co.uk is delegated to two name servers, however both delegated name servers are missing in the zone.

You need to check the settings within the VPS.NET DNS Dashboard as the record appears to not include dns1.vps.net and dns2.vps.net as the NS's, due to this the SOA record etc are not being recognised.

Hope this helps.

It was getting to the point where updating multiple DNS servers was a huge pain, this is awesome. Thanks so much VPS.NET!

I've deleted the domain from the control panel and let the cpanel plugin re-add the entry but I'm not sure what I should be checking in the dashboard to check whats right.

What entries for NS do you have in https://www.vps.net/domains for your domain name?

I have never seen this before, whois lookups are showing your nameservers correctly, but when using a more advanced search it says "No name servers or DNS records were found for mattynet.co.uk." Are you able to confirm that the entry quoted above is for "mattynet.co.uk" with the DNS dashboard and that it is spelt correctly. If so, there is no reason as to why this should be showing as no NS's. The other bizzare thing, is that I can view your web site without issue from one of my clients office's, but not from another

You might want to log a support ticket if you haven't already to get VPS.net support to take a look.

Yes please put in a ticket and provide ticket ID (it's in the URL) and we'll take a look.
