Hello guys!

I have a VPS running Debian 5 & ISPManager Lite and want to update / upgrade the following:
- PHP 5.2.6 to PHP 5.2.17
- Apache 2.2.9 to Apache 2.2.17
- MySQL 5.0.51 to MySQL 5.1.51
- phpMyAdmin 2.11.8.1 to phpMyAdmin 3.3.9.2 ( or 3.4.3.1 the last version )
- SquirrelMail 1.4.15 to SquirrelMail 1.4.21
- FastCGI Apache Module 2.2 to FastCGI Apache Module 2.4.6

Would you recomand me to install NGINX ?

I know this is a lot to ask, but i'm searching for the past 2 days, and found nothing. Can you please help me ?

unless you build from source its going to be pretty nigh on impossible to get all those versions installed on your system

you have 2 options really

upgrade to squeeze by following my guide on this forum, this will give you a later version of apache and php 5.3.5, mysql 5.1.51 and probably later versions of all the others

OR

upgrade to the dotdeb repositories, again i think there is a guide on this forum already, just make sure you specify its lenny and not stable that will get you php 5.2.17 and mysql 5.1.57

just a note on debian packages, just because its an old version number, it may not neccesarily be a totally old version, debian tend to backport in the security fixes and effectively manage there own streams of packages like apache and php so it may just be that you have pretty close to the apache and php versions you mentioned.

also if you want the latest version of phpmyadmin, your going to need to install it manually yourself

nginx is always a good option, only caveat is, is that with ispmanager it only operates in a reverse proxy mode so you are not quite getting the full benefit out of it so it may not be worthwhile especially if you are using apache in FCGI mode

You could try to upgrade it one by one. I will be trying to do the same. If anything fails or if I have encountered any problem, then that should be the time to stop. I will start on updating my Apache.

the point is debian squeeze doesnt provide updated binaries so trying to upgrade one by one will probably break your system, you would need to do a full update to squeeze to get most of the updates you want

in short if you dont know how to do it, dont do it or get someone that does know to do it

Yeah ... i went with CentOS finally. The speed is much better than Debian ( i don't know why ).
