The first step towards getting started with the VPS.NET is determining the platform to host your site on.
There are several options available:
- Cloud Hosting
- Geo Hosting
- Hosted Apps
- Cloud Server
Each of the platforms have their own strengths and limitations.
Cloud Hosting is for medium sites and comes with a great intuitive cpanel-like easy-to-use interface to manage different parts of the configuration. This option does not require you to manage the server as everything will be managed by our team, and includes unlimited support for basic questions.
Web server | Litespeed |
PHP | optimised for WordPress |
Opcode cache | eAccelerator |
cPanel access | |
Mail server facilities
Migration to the server is supported
DNS | dns1.vps.net/dns2.vps.net can be used |
Geo Hosting is for large sites that require a geographically distributed web hosting service. This involves DNS tweaks that will be responsible for directing clients requests to the nearest location and web service part that consists of 4 servers (Salt Lake City, Atlanta, London and Amsterdam) that are designed specifically to keep the site in the same state on each server. If one server goes down the rest servers will continue serving content just like nothing happened. When the affected server is up it will get the latest data from one of the other servers that stayed live.
This option does not require you to manage the server and includes unlimited support for basic questions.
Each web server has:
Web server | Litespeed |
PHP | optimised for WordPress |
Opcode cache | eAccelerator |
Mysql is only innoDB supported (myISAM is designed the way that will not allow replicate the data across the servers using master-master technology)
Mail service is not supported (we recommend to use google apps instead)
Migration to the server is supported
DNS | you should use dns1.vps.net/dns2.vps.net for your site |
Hosted Apps is for small/medium new sites. If you are looking for some application you can simply choose it from the vast variety of supported applications and wait few minutes while your Cloud Server is built, web server configured, setup process completed and all of that happen automatically. You get a ready-to-use application plus free monitoring and nice panel for basic actions (like if reboot/ web server restart is required). This option does not require you to manage the server and includes unlimited support for basic questions.
Each web server has everything configured for application to work
Mail service is not supported
Migration of some existing site to the server is limited. Some application may not support this.
DNS | dns1.vps.net/dns2.vps.net can be used |
Cloud Servers are like a Virtual Private Server that gives you almost unlimited flexibility. You will need to have some knowledge about what Operation System you would like to use and how much disk space/CPU/RAM you would need for your site. You have root access to your server and you will be responsible for managing it.
Web server | You can install any |

If you want to have your own Cloud Server but require some assistance with its setup or monitoring you may like our “Managed support” option and our team will handle all system administration tasks on your own server at your request.
