Start blogging with Ghost!

As a part of our continuous efforts to offer fresh and unique software solutions to our customers, you can now use Ghost blogging platform at VPS.NET.

Ghost is an Open Source application which allows you to write and publish your own blog, giving you the tools to make it easy and even fun to do. It’s simple, elegant, and designed so that you can spend less time making your blog work and more time blogging.

To start blogging with Ghost you need to get a VPS.NET Cloud Server with the Ubuntu 12.04 x64 LTS + Ghost template. It is at the bottom of the Ubuntu available OS Templates.

Once installed you can access your new Ghost blog from your browser, using the IP address of your server. If you are unsure of your server IP address, you can grab it directly from the Dashboard.

Congratulations! At this step you can start publishing your content and tidying up your blog for the world!

First you need to create your Ghost admin account. You can do it by accessing your blog through http://ip/admin/ URL where ip refers to the IP address of your server. This screen will look like:

You should enter your name, email address and desired password (which should be at least 8 characters).

Once done you’ve created your Blog account! From that point on feel free to access your blog through the admin URL, using your freshly created account.

On the first page of the admin section, you’ll be able to see your posts, to quickly edit them, add new ones, as well as alter the settings of your blog.

You’re now ready to publish!

Taking that you will manage yourself easily around the content publishing, as it only takes 2 steps to publish a new blog post – click on the New Post link, add your content and you are ready to publish, we will shortly explain the last bit of the Ghost blogging platform – Settings.

On the Settings page you can define your Blog and your User settings. Blog settings relate to:

Blog settings

Blog title – anything you want to name your Blog after (your name or any specific subject/title)

Blog description – here you can describe what your blog is about or describe yourself

You can add blog logo and a blog cover image.

Email address – define email address of the blog (you can use your own too)

Posts per page – depending on how long your blog posts are you can define whether you want only a few blog posts to be displayed per page, or you want more of them listed on each page.

Theme – you can choose a theme you want to use. Initially by default you will have the “casper” theme which is default Ghost theme.

User settings

User settings are used to define your user details like Email address used for notifications, your location, website URL if you have one, and a bit about yourself personally. These fields are optional.

There is also a possibility to change your profile password on this page.

You can now start sharing your ideas and thoughts with the world as blogging has never been easier!
