Whats new in the control panel?

We've made a few little tweaks to our control panel recently so here is a quick 3 minute tour of our new tweaks.

New Quick Links

We've put in some new quick action buttons at the top of the control panel to allow people to easily access the most popular options people use in the control panel. Click and go!

New Instant VPS

With our instant VPS, the system will give you a choice of location you want a new 4 node VPS and deploy it with CentOS. Two clicks and you're away.

Search your VPS

If you find managing a large number of VPS a bit tricky you might like our new search box that allows you to find the VPS you are a looking for quickly and easily. Just enter part of the hostname or label and you are good to go.

Pagination

If you have a number of VPS on your account and find navigating it a bit slow we've now put in the ability to limit the number of VPS shown at any one time. You can choose to show 10/20/50/100 or All of your VPS from the drop down.

New Event Log

You can now get events recorded by our system about server restarts, builds or events from the Activity Log on the VPS management screen. Just click Activity Log to refresh the list to see what your server has been up to.

Yearly Billing – 10% discount

We've had a number of requests for us to offer yearly billing, in addition to our current daily and monthly billing. Anyone on yearly billing also gets a 10% discount. We are pleased to announce that we now allow users to turn on yearly billing for their nodes. To activate this login to your account, click invoices, then click "migrate" on the annual billing option. Click confirm that you are happy and the system will automatically migrate your billing over. The 10% discount will be automatically applied

VPS Ram Node Special

For our August special we are offering a special on our RAM nodes. We are offering 512Mb of extra RAM for just £5 / $7.50/mo! More RAM means faster servers, less swapping and a smoother hosting experience. RAM is the cheapest, easiest and quickest upgrade that you can do to any server!

There is no limit on the amount of RAM you can add to your account. To add RAM on, at this fantastic price, you just need to log onto your control panel to add new nodes. You can also add nodes from "Edit VPS" if you prefer.

Clone and Deploy your Cloud Servers

Today we are pleased to announce our new clone and deploy function. If you've ever wanted to just make a copy of your cloud server for testing on or just want to deploy a configure image multiple times this is for you. Its also extremely easy to use.

a) Find the cloud server that you want to clone and goto the "backup" tab, click Clone then confirm with OK

b) Wait 15-30 minutes and your new cloud server copy will of been created

c) There is no C. Your new cloud server is now ready to use!

Tick Tock

Time is important. Keeping time even more so. A vital part of this is NTP (Network Time Protocol). NTP allows servers to ask a central collection of servers what the time is, and adjust its local time if needed. This allows emails to have the correct time on as well as log files. Recently their was a call for more servers (http://news.ntppool.org/2012/06/more-servers-please.html) so we decided to answer that call by setting up multiple cloud servers. We've now deployed out NTP servers in London, Paris, Frankfurt, Atlanta, Chicago, Salt Lake City, Tokyo and Singapore which are free for anyone on the internet to connect to check the time.

Single Sign on

We've made VPS.net that little bit easier to use. If you are signing up for the first time, or an existing user we now allow you to login using your Gmail or Facebook account. If you are an existing user you must first link your Facebook/Gmail accounts at https://control.vps.net/profile. Scroll down and then you can just select the accounts that you wish to link. Once done you can then login on to the control panel. If you are a new user you can just click the link on signup.

Free Nodes!

With the launch of our new Paris and Manchester locations (with 5 more coming soon), we are doing some free nodes for new AND existing customers. All you have to do is login to the control panel and create a new VPS.

Make sure you select "Promo Nodes" as the node type.

Select the Manchester or Paris clouds as the clouds to build on and you're done.

For new customers we allow one promo node. For existing customers the number is limited to 20% of your nodes, or one node, whichever is the greater amount.

These nodes are free for 30 days and then become chargeable at our normal rates. Any questions please drop mgmt@vps.net a line and we will be happy to help out.

VPN’ing all over the world.

We know lots of our customers like using the VPS.net infrastructure for VPN'ing. Sometimes however it can be a little hard to setup, not quite work with your setup or generally have a barrier to entry thats a bit higher than you want. We are pleased to announce however that we now have VPN support built right into the VPS.net control panel.

A VPN is great for securing your connection if you are on an untrusted network, e.g. a coffee shop or an open network and want to make sure that you information stays safe. We are offering the VPN free for the first month for all VPS.net customers! Setup is as always simple to do.

Simply goto the VPN section of your control panel. Click "Create New Account" and select the location of the VPN you want, the type you want (If not sure choose PPTP) and click "Confirm".
